Theta Brainwaves

Theta brainwaves (around 4 to 7 Hz) are the sweet spot for many brain functions. There, we often experience extreme relaxation, creativity, as well as vibrant mental imagery. Theta brainwaves also are the brain state of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep (dreams), hypnosis, lucid dreaming, and the barely conscious state just before sleeping and just after waking. Theta is the border between the conscious and the subconscious world, and by learning to use a conscious, waking Theta brainwave we can access and influence the powerful subconscious part of ourselves that is normally inaccessible to our waking minds. While in the Theta state, the mind is capable of deep and profound learning, healing, and growth - it is the brainwave where our minds can connect to the Divine and manifest changes in the material world.

Here are the features related to Theta Brainwaves:

• Produced by subconscious mind, and present in dreaming sleep and REM state.
• Deep meditation & spiritual connection, deep healing of body & mind.
• Long-term memory, center of creative inspiration and storehouse of repressed     psychological & emotional baggage.

Deep Relaxation

Simply put, when your brain is producing theta brainwaves, you will feel deeply, deeply relaxed. Kind of like being a calm, serene Zen meditator, or similar to when you're on a lilo at sea, just gently bobbing in the ocean, with the sun beating down on you. Or when you roll over in bed early on a Sunday morning, delight in realizing that you don't have to get up and go to work, and go back to sleep immediately with a huge grin on your face. It's all awesomeness and happiness and chilled-out-ness all round.

Increased Creativity

Similar to Alpha brainwaves, researchers have shown that people who accessed theta brainwaves had "new and valid ideas, not primarily by deduction, but springing by intuition from unconscious sources" Chemistry professor Thomas Taylor from the Texas A&M hooked a load of students up to an EEG machine (like you see in the movies with the sticky plastic pads with wires stuck all over people's heads) in an attempt to analyze 'synthesis thinking' - which is basically saying "find out how people come up with new and creative ways to solve a problem". Taylor found that "during the chance moment in which a difficult concept suddenly 'made sense', (the subject) showed an abrupt change in brainwave patterns in the theta range".

Learning and "Super Learning"

Theta state appears to be very useful for learning. This is a very good thing - because not only does learning feel nice, but typically people who continue to learn after school/university are more well-rounded, and arguably are more successful and earn more money too. High fives all round.

Bio-feedback world expert Dr Budzynski notes that theta brainwaves, if used appropriately, could "dramatically boost one's learning abilities" and "enhances the absorption of the material ... (as) a lot of work gets done very quickly".

For the past forty years or so, scientists

have experimented with different audio techniques to induce Theta waves. One technique is to play a specific audio rhythm to replicate the 4 to 7 Hz frequency of the Theta brainwaves. By doing so, scientists hoped to lull the brain into the Theta state on command. Fantastically, it works. It means we can use Brainwave Entrainment to reach the deep relaxed, creative and super learning state.
